Karen Hoisington

About the Artist

Karen’s trajectory as an artist is complex, with dramatic shifts about every decade. Her voracious exploration and fearlessness define her career as a painter. There are a few constant themes and ideas throughout all of Karen's variations in her art. She is a colourist. She loves colour, and it is her primary expressive tool. She understands emotion and movement and manipulates the painted space with a reverent approach allowing the painting always to be the winner. Preferring preliminary mark-making before transferring the concepts to larger formats when the occasion calls for it, she expresses strength and bravado. Her paintings always point toward symbolic meditations, as Charles Baudelaire described as “extracting the eternal from the ephemeral.”
